Kicking Pails and Lighting Fires- Using Technology to Light Fires of Learning within Students
William Butler Yeats once said, "Education is not the filling of a pail, it's the lighting of a fire". As teachers we sometimes forget that we have the ability to spark a desire inside of students and we get overwhelmed with all the resources available. It's time to get out of the mind-frame of just filling up their pails, that can only hold so much, and focus on lighting fires that can ignite a nation of future learners. With Google Suite, multiple apps and programs, you will leave with a variety of resources to implement in your classroom! We will look at many ways to incorporate technology while also motivating students and helping them take control of their own learning. Are you ready to spark your teaching and your students?

Technology for Stations
Learning stations are a fun and engaging way to introduce students to new concepts or allow them to practice what they already know. I use stations in my own classroom across all subjects. Integrating technology such as QR codes, a variety assessment and interactive tools, and Google Classroom can make station teaching even more effective. These tech tools will save you not only time but paper copies as well. I will focus on how I have used these tools in a 2nd and 3rd grade classroom. These ideas can be used at any level, for any subject! Please bring a device so you can participate in this hands-on presentation. At the end, we will share ideas for how you can use these tools in your own classroom.

Facilitating a Learner-Centered Makerspace
"We have this tech and these tools, but we don't know how to use them or incorporate them into our lessons." We hear this a lot. In fact, they're the primary reasons most teachers are hesitant to adopt a "maker mindset". This session defines a makerspace and de-mystifies how to facilitate it. Discover why student creation drives learning, how you can foster it, and what's essential for a successful, learner-centered makerspace.

Students can, with the click of a few keys, uncover information more quickly, digest that information and present it to their teachers and peers in a way that looks extremely professional. Technology will also allow students to take situations and problems encountered in class and change variables to evaluate the outcome. Online simulations provide the venue for students to truly understand predictive models and then critically evaluate the PROS and CONS related to their outcome.
